Once you learn you are pregnant, please submit a completed Notification of Pregnancy (Ninshin Todokesho) to the city office. Upon submission, you will be issued a Maternal and Child Health Handbook. The handbook is used to record the health of the mother and child. English, Portuguese, Spanish, Chinese, Thai and Korean versions of the handbook are available for foreign residents. In addition to this handbook, you will also obtain 14 antenatal checkup coupons and a Certificate of Beneficiary of Medical Aid for Expectant and Parturient Women.

The aid covers the portion of medical expenses to be paid individually when they receive inpatient or outpatient medical services covered by health insurance.
In the case of children under 3 years of age receiving medical treatment within Tochigi Prefecture: Simply present the child's health insurance certificate and Certificate of Beneficiary of Medical Aid for Children to the medical institution. You will be exempted from the personally borne medical cost. When receiving medical treatment outside of Tochigi Prefecture, pay the medical fees to the medical institution. Then apply for reimbursement of the medical expenses paid.
In the case of children aged 3 or older receiving medical treatment within Utsunomiya City:
Simply present the child's health insurance certificate and Certificate of Beneficiary of Medical Aid for Children to the medical institution.
